SHAFT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LONG DRIVE COMPETITORS

To choose the proper shaft for your swing you need to take into effect several different characteristics.

1)  The first is your body and swing type.  This can  range from a powerful upper body and swing to average upper body strength and a smooth slower swing.  To light of a shaft in a powerful, quick, fast swing can cause a loss of control where as this shaft will help a player with a slower smother swing.  A player should choose the lightest shaft possible to gain distance but not so light that it causes a loss of control.

Our shaft weight recommendation are designated by a colored asterisk
            A)    Tour weight shafts 90grams and up.  These would be best for Strong players with a powerful swing type.
H
            B)    Standard weight shafts 78grams to 89grams.  These would be best for most players with average body types and average to powerful swings
S
            C)    Light weight shafts 68 grams to 77grams.  These would be best for most players looking for added distance with control
L
            D)    Ultra light weight shafts below 67grams.  These would be best for players with smooth slower swings looking for added distance.
U

2)    To narrow your shaft choice we need to look at the shaft torque.  Torque measures how much a shaft rotationally twists.  The lower the torque the less the shaft twists.  Fifteen years ago it was thought that all players would benefit from using a shaft with the lowest torque available or affordable, this has been proven wrong.  Players with a fast and quick swing can benefit from low torques but a torque that is to low for a swing can cause a club to feel to stiff or "like a board".  Players with a slower smoother swing will benefit from using shafts with higher torques.
            A)    Very low torque 2.9 or less.  These would be best for fast, quick swings.
V
            B)    Low torque 3.0 to 3.6.  These would be best for most players with faster swings.
L
            C)    Medium torque 3.7 to 4.8.  These would be best for most players.
M

3)    To narrow your shaft choice further we need to determine your shot trajectory  Shafts with a high bend or flex point produce a lower shot.  This is usually good for players with average to above average club head speed looking for control and a boring shot.  Shafts with a low bend or flex point produce a higher shot and can help players with slower club head speeds get the ball up and increase distance.
            A)   High flex point
H Lower shot
            B)   Mid flex point
M

           C)  Low flex point L Higher shot

4)    To narrow your shaft selection further  you need to determine your the quality of game you play.  The shaft selections below are divided into Strong Experienced Long Drive Competitors and Long Drive Shafts for players with a slower tempo swing.  To get the best shaft you should choose one from your category.
        A) Shafts for Strong Experienced Long Drive Competitors are highlighted in red
        B) Shafts for Strong Low handicap players are highlighted in green
        C) Long Drive Shafts for players with a slower tempo swing are highlighted in blue

5)    Next you should choose what flex shaft you need by your swing speed.  Your swing speed should be determined using a standard length driver or 3 wood.

An example:

1)  Lets say you are of average build with a powerful swing.  This means that a Standard weight shaft would be best for you.
This would give you the following shafts-AccuFlex Extreme LD, Penley G2-M, Penley Stealth 70 LD, Harrison Pro 2.5 FL Lite Xtra, Harrison Pro 2.5 Ti Tip.

2)  You have fast strong swing.  A very low torque shaft would be best for you in this case.
From the choices above this would leave Penley G2-M, Harrison Pro 2.5 FL Lite Xtra, Harrison Pro 2.5 Ti Tip.

3)  You have a strong fast swing and want to keep the ball down for a boring trajectory with added control.  In this situation you should try a shaft with a High flex point.
This would leave your shaft choices to Penley G2-M, Harrison Pro 2.5 FL Lite Xtra, Harrison Pro 2.5 Ti Tip.

4)  You are a strong competitor in Long Drive competitions. This means you should use a shaft highlighted in red.
This would leave your shaft choice to the Penley G2-M, Harrison Pro 2.5 FL Lite Xtra, Harrison Pro 2.5 Ti Tip.

5)  Your club head speed is 120mph.
This would give you Penley G2-M (XXX), Harrison Pro 2.5 FL Lite Xtra (X), Harrison Pro 2.5 Ti Tip (X).  These shafts should play equally well for you.  From this point you can choose which shaft to use by company loyalty, the shaft color or any other feature.

6)    This will give you shafts to choose from on the drop down menu for the golfer type that most describes your game.  These are recommendations only and this is only a guide to help you choose a shaft that fits your swing.
